Web

Written and Directed by Brendan Mack

FEB 17 - MAR 10, 2012

Based on characters created by E.B. White

Welcome to Iowa, where the pigs talk, the spiders spell and you can get away with murder.

Web is a dark re-imagination of the classic children's story Charlotte's Web. It takes the events of E.B. White's book and puts them in a real world setting, and then it asks the audience what it is that they believe. Web honors the foundations and lessons that White's book teaches to children-- friendship, sacrifice, and above all, understanding and coping with death. The play re-introduces these themes to an adult audience. The story is based loosely on the Susan Smith trial in 1995 in which Smith was convicted of murdering her two young children. The play draws on her story, as well as countless other cases of mothers accused of infanticide. It ponders why we are sometimes drawn to believe the worst in people. Ultimately, Web is a story of faith, belief, and hope.
